Ballistic architecture machine (bam) is a diverse and multidisciplinary design collective, crafting visceral landscapes and architecture since 2007. our name reveals our enthusiasm for new design tools and methodologies, free from residual ego associated with individual designers. with a rich 16-year history originating from groundbreaking public installations, bam has evolved into a pioneering force in the realms of urban and landscape design.
committed to redefining the urban landscape, bam sees it as the true material of the city. our unwavering belief is that landscape design is paramount for addressing 21st-century challenges, foregrounding landscapes, as opposed to buildings, as the defining icons of future cities. rooted in the understanding of landscape as a constructed cultural medium, bam transforms the realm where urban spaces, boundaries, and peripheries converge into places where people can truly enjoy living.
our portfolio of over 160 built projects in 7 countries challenges conventional definitions of landscape architecture, urban design, architecture. each project is a unique journey that challenges norms and contributes to the perpetual debate surrounding landscape aesthetics, culture, and the environment. for bam, ‘nature is an idea,’ encapsulates our enigmatic stance on the evolving relationship between humanity and the constructed urban landscape.
proudly recognized as a top 100 global design firm by kyoto design award, bam has also earned prestigious accolades including design studio of the year 2023 by the asia pacific design council, grand prix du design landscape of the year awards, muse award, mipim award, a’ award, and dezeen award. notably, bam projects have clinched the architizer jury and popular choice awards for three consecutive years.
